Prof. Andrew Starr

Professor Andrew Starr is Head of the Through-life Engineering Services Institute, at Cranfield University, a world-leading centre of excellence in maintenance and asset management for high value systems. The TES Institute works in partnership with industry in research and education.
Professor Starr read Mechanical Engineering at the University of Leeds, while sponsored by British Aerospace (Civil Aircraft), for which he was awarded first prize in the final year of his apprenticeship. He studied for his doctoral thesis in condition based maintenance for robotic production plant at the University of Manchester, sponsored by Ford and Wolfson Maintenance. He has held academic posts at the University of Huddersfield, the University of Manchester, and the University of Hertfordshire, as Head of the School of Aerospace, Automotive and Design Engineering. His research work has been funded by EPSRC, the EU, and a wide range of industrial partners. He is a Chartered Engineer, a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society, a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, a member of the British Institute of Non-Destructive Testing and a member of the Institute of Asset Management. He has published over 150 technical papers from a wide range of collaborative projects with industry, helping to solve real problems and to devise innovative products and services.

Prof. Diego Galar

Prof. Diego Galar has a M.Sc. in Telecommunications, PhD degree in Manufacturing from the University of Saragossa and PhD in BA from Mexico V. University. He has been Professor in several universities, including the University of Saragossa or the European University of Madrid, a senior researcher in I3A, Institute for engineering research in Aragon, director of academic innovation and subsequently pro-vice-chancellor. He has also been visiting Professor in the University of Valencia, Polytechnic of Braganza (Portugal), Valley University (Mexico) and NIU (USA).
In industry, he has been technological director and CBM manager. He has authored more than hundred journal and conference papers, books and technical reports in the field of maintenance. Currently, he is full professor in the Division of Operation and Maintenance in LTU, Luleå University of Technology, where he is coordinating several EU-FP7 projects related to different maintenance aspects and is also involved in the SKF UTC centre located in Lulea focused in SMART bearings.

Henk Samson

HENK SAMSON, Business Development & Innovation, Asset Management, Strukton Rail Henk Samson is working for more than five years for Strukton Rail. Initially responsible for a department working on the continuous optimisation of the maintenance management process. This included both (IT) tools supporting the process as well as technology for measuring and monitoring the asset status. In this role he also represents Strukton in the European research project Automain. Asset Management has become a focal point in his current work. His latest role concerns business development & innovation. This includes participating in new research and development projects on European level, for example in the context of Horizon 2020 & the SHIFT2RAIL initiative.

Prof. Filipe Didelet

Filipe Didelet holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Superior Technical Institute and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Oporto. He started his professional life as Maintenance Engineer in the Chemical Industry and in consulting companies. He is currently a Coordinator Professor of the Setubal School of Technology of the Polytechnic Institute of Setubal. He has many technical and scientific papers published in Portugal and abroad in the areas of maintenance and reliability, through magazines or through participation in conferences. He has also directed several academic dissertations in these areas, at master's and doctoral level in several institutions. He is a Senior Maintenance Specialist by the Portuguese Engineers Association (Order of Engineers – OE) and National Vice-Coordinator of Specialization in Industrial Maintenance of OE.
In addition to maintenance and reliability, in recent years he has been dedicated to research in the area of risk analysis, having been until 2013 one of the Coordinators of the Master in Occupational Safety and Hygiene promoted jointly by the Higher Schools of Technology of Setúbal and Management and Business Sciences of the Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal.
He also published two books on Reliability and Maintenance.

Michele Albano

Michele Albano is Research Associate in the CISTER Research Unit of the Polytechnic of Porto, Portugal, and Adjunct Professor at Polytechnic Institute of Cavado e Ave, Portugal. His research focuses on Cyber Physical Systems and Communication Middleware, in particular for the application areas of industrial maintenance, smart grids, and vehicular networks.
Michele received his degrees from the University of Pisa, Italy, and he was researcher at Universidad de Malaga, Spain, at University of New York at Stony Brook, and at Instituto de Telecomunicações in Aveiro, Portugal. He has been involved in more than 10 international research projects, and he is currently active in the context of European projects Productive 4.0 and MANTIS, and in the latter he is Work Package leader for WP3 "Smart sensing and data acquisition technologies" and for WP8 "Dissemination of knowledge and exploitation". His works have been published in more than 70 international conferences and journals, he has published 2 books, and he is the editor of the book "The MANTIS book: Cyber Physical System Based Proactive Maintenance". Since 2015, Michele is the Editor in Chief for the Journal of Green Engineering, River Publishers.
